American Airlines is facing a lawsuit over a serious engine fire at Chicago last month which injured 20 people.
A lawsuit on behalf of 18 passengers was filed on Monday and names both the airline and engine maker General Electric Aviation as defendants.
It claims General Electric provided a faulty engine which American used in an unsafe aircraft.
It also alleges the airline did not provide ‘assistance, supervision and instruction’ during the evacuation, which was when all the injuries happened.
A preliminary report by the National Transport Safety Board said a turbine disk in the engine suffered ‘fatigue cracking’ which resulted in the engine fire.
The suit seeks an unspecified amount in damages.
Neither American Airlines nor General Electric has responded officially to the lawsuit.
