American cancels flights due to problem with overhead bins

Friday, 8 March 20193 min read

American Airlines has been forced to cancel dozens of flights as aircraft have been taken out of service due to issues with overhead luggage bins.

The airline grounded 14 aircraft after discovering problems on two Boeing 737-800s. The other 12 were taken out of service for inspections, it said.

The vendor of the overhead bins is licensed by the Federal Aviation Agency in the US, said American.

"Though the issue did not impact the safety of flight of these aircraft, we are working with our vendor and the FAA to immediately address this issue," it added.

All passengers on the affected flights have now been re-booked.
American operates more than 300 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
