American Airlines’ regional service American Eagle is to be renamed to ‘Envoy’ the parent company have announced.
American Eagle is a wholly owned subsidiary of the newly formed American Airlines Group which was created following the merger of American Airlines and US Airways in December.
The American Eagle network typically serves smaller cities connecting to American’s hub airports such as New York JFK, Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Chicago O’Hare.
Envoy was picked following "an extensive vetting process that looked at over 1,000 names and considered feedback from American Eagle Airlines employees," the company said.
American Airlines Group believes the new name perfectly sums up its role within the carrier’s network – working as an ambassador and brand representative to customers.
Besides the name change, passengers will notice few operational differences.
The rebranding exercise will be limited to the addition of ‘Operated by Envoy’ placed on aircraft alongside American Eagle livery and on ticket stock, much like other regional carriers serving the American Airlines network.
