American tourist beaten up for giving Nazi salute in Germany

Friday, 15 Aug, 2017 0

An American tourist has found out the hard way it is probably not a great idea to get drunk and do Nazi salutes on the streets of Germany.

The 41-year old, who hasn’t been named, did just that and was beaten up by a passer-by in Dresden, police said.

The American was described as ‘severely drunk’ and suffered minor injuries, police said.

The stranger who assaulted him fled the scene and is being sought by police.

Police said they may yet charge the US national for breaking strict anti-hate laws which prohibit Nazi symbols and gestures.

A conviction can lead to jail time although in most cases fines are handed out.

It came only a week after two Chinese tourists were fined for giving Nazi salutes outside Berlin’s Reichstag.

Back in 2011 a Canadian tourist was also fined for a Nazi salute at the Reichstag.
