American, United Airlines ditch changes fees for international flights

United and American Airlines are scrapping fees for long-haul international flights, something they have already done for domestic services.
American said it will eliminate fees to change tickets on all long-haul international services which originate from the Americas.
That means fee waivers for first class, business class, premium economy and main cabin tickets.
"We are committed to making travel easier for our customers who fly on American. By eliminating change fees, we’re giving customers more flexibility no matter when or where they plan to travel," said Vasu Raja, American’s Chief Revenue Officer.
United Airlines separately said it will extend its change fee waiver for international tickets later this year as well as for basic economy tickets.
Nearly all US airlines have axed fees for domestic flights in order to lure more passengers back, and others will likely extend it to international services too.
