Americans getting more exotic

Monday, 16 August 20043 min read

The Chicago, Ill.-based iExplore says it is seeing a rebound in sales for more exotic destinations.

Prior to 9-11, exotic destinations such as Vietnam and Cambodia were popular, said eExplore founder George Deeb. But after that, American travelers stayed closer to home.

“It looks like 2004 will be the year Americans started exploring the farther corners of the world again,” he said.

Top sellers this summer include Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Namibia, Peru, China, Chile and the Galapagos Islands, according to Mr Deeb.

His company, founded in 1999, sells adventure and experiental travel. The company has thousands of different trips and is associated with National Geographic, which is an equity owner.
