Amtrak, Silver Rail extend distribution partnership
National rail operator Amtrak has extended an agreement for global distribution with technology provider Silver Rail for a further three years.
Under the terms of the partnership Silver Rail will continue to offer tickets for Amtrak’s entire network worldwide through its global platform which was the first of its kind specializing in passenger rail.
The Amtrak network is incorporated in SilverRail’s ticketing platform, SilverCore, a single, unified global system accessed by online travel agents, travel management firms and traditional travel agents to book North American and international rail travel.
It also has e-ticketing functionality.
"SilverRail has helped us keep pace with this growing demand for rail," said Matt Hardison, Amtrak chief marketing and sales officer.
Hardison said Amtrak carried a record 31.6 million passengers in 2013.
Silver Rail partners with rail companies in nine countries including Canada, UK, Germany, and the Netherlands.
During the past year it has inked deals with national rail operators in Spain, Italy, and Sweden.
Boston based Silver Rail which launched in 2009, recently raised another $40 million in venture capital funding.
