Another sewing needle found in on-board meal
Another airline passenger has found a sewing needle in an on-board meal.
A passenger flying from Victoria, British Columbia to Toronto uncovered the potentially lethal needle in the onboard meal, a pre-wrapped sandwich.
Air Canada officials told the Toronto Star they were "taking the matter very seriously."
The incident occurred two weeks after similar sewing needles were found on US-bound Delta flights from Amsterdam. Dutch law enforcement officials told AP and USA Today that they are continuing to investigate and at present there is no link between the two incidents.
The Province reports that the caterer of the Air Canada flight, while not identified by the airline, was not Gate Gourmet, the global catering company under scrutiny after providing the Amsterdam needle-laden sandwiches. However, The Toronto Star also reports that in 2010, Gate Gourmet’s parent company, gategroup, acquired Cara Airline Solutions, Canada’s leading airline caterer. The paper says that Air Canada is one of Cara’s largest clients.
