Tuesday, 03 Dec, 2019 0

An Antarctica sailing was delayed and several passengers cancelled their once in a lifetime cruise onboard Hurtigruten’s new Roald Amundsen after a truck transporting their luggage was hijacked in Chile.

About 200 case were stolen and remain missing after the vehicle was found abandoned.

Hurtigruten spokesperson Hanne Taalesen said no passengers were with the truck at the time and the ground handling firm’s employees were unharmed.

The cruise company assisted passengers in buying new clothes for the trip, but about 15 chose not to travel.

"Many of the passengers were of course very sad about this. It’s incredibly frustrating when you’ve travelled so far and then this happens," said Taalesen.

The ship has since departed from Punta Arenas in southern Chile.
