Ash cloud clears way for UK resurgence

Tuesday, 15 June 20103 min read

Hotels.com is reporting a surge in searches for UK accommodation since the ash cloud flight disruption.

Comparing April 15-25 2009 with April 14-24 this year, it claims UK searches have increased dramatically by up to 73% in Bath.

Glasgow was up 52%, Edinburgh 42%, and Guernsey 37% year on year.

“These statistics show that the recent disruption faced by travellers has sparked resurgence in interest for trusty UK breaks,” said Alison Couper, global communications director for Hotels.com.

Searches for Brighton and Bournemouth were both up by 28%, while Scarborough was up 28%, Bristol 25%, and the Lake District 24%.

However, the survey did not reveal the base from which the increases came.
