Atlantic City is betting on a new emphasis: shopping

Saturday, 08 Feb, 2005 0

The proliferation of shopping ventures in Atlantic City is a move by casinos to broaden their customer base.

“With two new shopping developments doing brisk business and a third set to open this summer, the city known for casino gambling and sandy beaches is rounding out its hand with upscale shops, boutiques and outlet stores,” wrote the Associated Press, adding:

“Gamblers, conventioneers and others who have long complained about the lack of non-gambling attractions now have some place beyond the beach  —  and the slot machines  —  to go.”

Some of the biggest shopping is still to come with Caesars Entertainment planning to spend $175 million to renovate a former pier into a shopping-and-entertainment complex.
