Atlantis, Paradise Island and Brookfield pledge USD3 million for Bahamas relief efforts
Atlantis, Paradise Island and owner Brookfield Asset Management have pledged $3 million to support relief efforts in the Bahamas communities devastated by Hurricane Dorian.
The funds are in addition to the grass roots efforts that began prior to and directly after the storm which wrought major damage on Abaco and Grand Bahama.
The funds are being dispersed to organizations are on the ground providing aid and assistance to the Bahamian people.
"All of us here at Atlantis are deeply saddened by the devastation of our sister islands Abaco and Grand Bahama. We are thankful that Hurricane Dorian did not directly impact Nassau and Paradise Island and we are in a position to help our fellow Bahamians" said Audrey Oswell, President and Managing Director, Atlantis, Paradise Island.
Atlantis and Brookfield began planning ahead of the storm in partnership with chef José Andrés and his World Central Kitchen team to prepare meals in Atlantis’ kitchens.
Meals continue to be delivered to Abaco and Grand Bahama and Atlantis’ staff volunteers are assisting in their delivery, and will continue to do so as long as it is needed.
"Now our focus is on how we can contribute to the rebuilding of lives and communities in the affected areas," Oswell added.
Donation sites have been set up at Brookfield Place in New York and Atlantis’ offices in Plantation Florida to accept donations and a Go Fund Me site has been opened with a target of $1 million.
Atlantis said it plans to announce more relief partnerships in the upcoming weeks.
