Australia feels the ‘Harry effect’

Visitor numbers in outback areas of Australia are expected to be boosted by Prince Harry’s exploits as a jackaroo, according to tourist bosses Down Under.

According to a report in today’s Daily Mail, since the Prince decided to spend part of his gap year working on a remote Queensland farm, the state has become “the latest hip location for young travellers”.

David Stitt, director of The Work and Travel Company, said there has been a significant increase in inquiries for staying on Australian farms. He reportedly told the newspaper: “Over the past three weeks our company has seen a 30% increase in inquiries about Australian farm experiences. This is mainly due to the interest in Prince Harry’s arrival, which is now converting into a surge of emails and phone calls.”

One Australian tourist boss reportedly told the Mail: “Having Prince Harry visit the outback will help boost awareness of what is sometimes called the real Australia, the heart of our great country. He might be a prince of England but he has a chance to be a king of the outback.”
