Australia slams brakes on border reopening
Australia’s National Security Committee announced it will delay the planned partial border reopening by at least two weeks. It had allowed access for international skilled workers and students from 1 December.
The decision was taken on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Australia, Paul Kelly.
The reopening to travellers from Japan and Korea will also be pushed back to 15 December, due to the emergence of the Omicron variant.
"The temporary pause will ensure Australia can gather the information we need to better understand the Omicron variant," a government statement said.
