Australia suffers third fatal shark attack
A fatal shark attack has hit Australia for the third time in less than two months.
The latest victim was a 32-year-old American diver who was killed by a great white on a solo dive near Rottnest Island, a few miles from Perth.
Earlier this month, a 64-year-old Australian swimmer was attacked by a great white off Perth’s Cottesloe Beach, about 12 miles east of Rottnest Island.
In September, a bodyboarder was attacked at a beach south of Perth.
The attacks have given rise to fears of a single man-eating predator killing all three men, but experts said this was unlikely.
Yesterday Western Australia state Fisheries Minister Norman Moore said: “This is a unique set of circumstances, and I’m desperately … praying this is not the beginning of a new trend … and we’re going to have these on a regular basis.â€
