Although Australia’s borders are set to reopen next month they will remain closed for inbound foreign tourists.
International tourists won’t be welcomed back to Australia until 2022, says Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
Inbound passenger traffic will be restricted to Australians and foreign workers and students, the PM said.
Skilled migrants and international students will be prioritised first.
"We will get to international visitors as well, I believe next year," Morrison said.
Last week, The PM announced tentative plans to allow vaccinated citizens to fly overseas from sometime in November.
An actual start date is dependent on the vaccination rate reaching 80%.
Australia has had one of the strictest border policies of any country since the start of the pandemic making it very difficult for Aussies to return home or go overseas.
