Australian backpacker tour company goes bust

Australia-based backpacker tour company Wicked Travel has entered liquidation with debts totalling about A$1.5 million.

It has left many holidaymakers high and dry and out of pocket, with reports few if any will be refunded.

The company operated the Wicked Travel Indie Travel and Out of Bounds Backpackers brands with several stores located along the east Coast from Melbourne to Byron Bay.

The business reportedly sold off its assets last month to Greyhound Australia.

“Greyhound Australia are promising that all coach travel previously purchased via Wicked Travel will be honoured and welcome everyone with passes or tickets, aboard their luxury coaches,” it said, but offered no assurances for customers who booked other tours and activities.

“Should you have any questions regarding purchases prior to this time we recommend you contact the tour operator directly or the administrators of the now liquidated Wicked Travel. Should you need assistance and getting their contact details please let us know.”

Wicked Travel offered tours to major destinations including Fraser Island, the Whitsundays, the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru.
