Australia is getting its first ‘all you can fly’ member’s only airline with the launch of Airly.
Following a similar business model to California based Surf Air, a monthly fee gives travellers unlimited flights on designated routes.
The company will launch the first flight in March, and plans to operate 54 flights per week in eight-seater jets.
Airly will fly out of smaller airports for a more streamlined experience avoiding time spent "parking a car, crossing a vast terminal, queuing, checking in, security, waiting in the lounge, walking to the gate and then doing that all at the other end," said co-founder Alexander Robinson.
Initial routes will connect Essendon in Melbourne, Bankstown in Sydney and Canberra, with plans to expand to Archerfield in Brisbane, Moorabbin in Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast.
"We’ve had a lot of people say it’s a good idea and they can understand the problem, and Airly’s proposed solution. There have been a lot of prospective members ask us to commence flying as soon as possible, as they can relate first-hand to the commuter-style and lost time involved in commercial air travel," Robinson said.
Airly said unlimited flights start at A$2,550 a month and there is also a A$1,000 joining fee to pay.
