‘Awkward moment’ as plane flies between police helicopter and Royal Wedding crowds
The UK’s National Police Air Service has tweeted images of the moment an Aer Lingus aircraft flew between its security helicopter and Royal Wedding crowds at Windsor on Saturday.
A cameraman in the helicopter was scanning the crowds around Windsor Castle from above when the plane flew underneath for a brief moment.
The cameraman posted an image on the NPAS Benson Twitter page saying: "That awkward moment when you’re innocently scanning crowd numbers around the royal wedding and a plane several thousand feet BELOW us scares me for a split second!"
The following day, NPAS added video footage in another tweet, which said: "In case you missed it, here’s the moment Aer Lingus photobombed the royal wedding yesterday and gave our cameraman a shock!"
Windsor Castle is directly beneath one of Heathrow’s four main flight paths. Flights operated normally throughout the day, except for an agreed 15-minute no-fly period.
