Ayers Rock Airport reopens as Jetstar resumes flights

Sunday, 08 Sep, 2020 0

Ayers Rock Airport has reopened as budget carrier Jetstar resumes service linking the airport with Brisbane.

The decision to resume flights was reached through discussions with Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia and the Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation,  NT Government officials, Tourism NT, NT Health, state police and the airline.

Flight operations follow NT and Federal Government regulations, with passengers required to obtain an entry permit prior to boarding the inbound flight.

The permit requires details of recent travel history for the past 15 days to ensure no passengers have been in a Covid-19 hotspot.

Hefty fines are imposed for false or misleading information.

Temperature screening will take place at the airport on arrival.

"Voyages places the health and wellbeing of the residents of the Mutitjulu community, in addition to all our guests and staff, as a key priority," Voyages CEO Matthew Cameron-Smith said.

"These times call for measures we have not encountered previously. We will continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that the necessary, best-practice precautions are being undertaken."

Jetstar is operating the flights twice a week.

The airline has implemented various safety protocols such as contactless check-in and scanning of boarding passes, social distancing, and gives out a free face mask and sanitising wipes.
