Ayers Rock Resort – it’s a wrap!

Thursday, 02 May, 2006 0

Over the last month while The Mole has been featuring some of properties that make up Voyages Ayers Rock Resort right in the red centre of Australia, it became clear that this is the most amazing collection of hotels and what makes it even more amazing is the fact that is so remotely located.

Voyages Ayers Rock Resort can be found at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, in Australia’s Northern Territory and given that it is so remote, finding a high quality resort with range of accommodation, is something pretty unexpected!

The clever part about it is that all the resort properties are hidden from the National Park, which sets the scene for Voyages commitment to the environment and their demonstrated respect for the area’s traditional Aboriginal owners, through extensive programmes they have put in place.

The Voyages Ayers Rock Resort is actually not one resort per se, but a collection or resorts, including the fabulous Longitude 131, which is really very separate and not within the resort core, the 5* Sails in the Desert Hotel, 4.5* Desert Gardens Hotel, the 4* Emu Walk Apartments, 3.5* Lost Camel Hotel and the 3.5* Outback Pioneer Hotel and Lodge.

Voyages also runs the Ayers Rock Campground which offers powered campsites and air-conditioned cabins.

Accommodating 4,500 guests at full capacity, the Resort never seems full though and that is perhaps because the guests are out and about during the day exploring the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

Getting to Voyages Ayers Rock Resort is pretty straightforward and the manner in which you do so is rather determined by budget.  Backpackers might decide to go by bus, whereas others might drive the 445 kms from Alice Springs or perhaps the big ones, the 2,139 kms from Sydney or the 1953 kms from Melbourne.

Others simply take the easy way, as did The Mole and fly direct to Ayers Rock from Cairns, Sydney, Perth and Alice Springs and the resorts have complimentary transfers from the airport, which also happens to be owned by Voyages.

The Resort not only offers an excellent combination and range of accommodation, but an equally excellent combination of restaurants and eating opportunities and an extremely extensive range of touring options.

So what were The Mole’s highlights of our visit to Voyages Ayer Rock Resort?

Without question, Longitude 131 is fabulous and if you get chance to stay there, then you should!

In terms of the core resorts, the range of properties and price, with excellent quality in every regard is pretty impressive.

Ultimately, the star of the show has to be the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park itself and in particular the mystical Uluru, which has to be visited either at dawn or dusk to experience at its best.

A visit to the cultural and spiritual heart of Australia has to be on every Australians must see and do list and there is no better partner with which to undertake this spectacular visit than Voyages Hotel and Resorts – go ahead, enjoy!
