LONDON – British Airways was in last-ditch talks with union bosses overnight aimed at ending the cabin crew strike due to start this weekend.
BA chief executive Willie Walsh and Unite union co-leader Tony Woodley were locked into prolonged talks aimed at providing a basis for BA cabin crew to call off the strike threat.
Woodley told the BBC, “It’s a very difficult set of negotiations… it’s far too early to say that there will be a resolution here.â€
A BA spokeswoman would not comment on the resumption of negotiations. “We are not giving any running commentary on this issue,” she said.
Cabin crew are planning a series of stoppages, starting on Saturday.
A BA cost-cutting plan that the airline says is necessary to reduce huge losses has been rejected by cabin crew
