British Airways is urging travel agents to stop disuading their customers from flying from Heathrow Terminal 5 following the terminal’s embarrassing opening.
Speaking to agents at the Guild of Travel Management Companies’ conference in Istanbul, BA head of sales Drew Crawley thanked TMCs for their hard work in helping re-direct passengers and cope with the disruption.
He admitted the opening had been a “cock-up” and an “acute embarrassment” for BA and for the country, but said operations had now been running smoothly for six weeks and two million passengers have now passed through T5.
“We would urge TMCs not to disuade travellers from using the terminal and we hope we have now earned your confidence,” he added.
He said 25% of long-haul traffic currently operating from T4 will be moved to T5 on June 6 and remaining flights will be probably be moved across in two stages, with dates being announced next week.
