Baggage systems fail at Heathrow

Thursday, 15 June 20173 min read

A problem with baggage systems at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 and 5 this morning has now been fixed but many passengers have been forced to fly without their bags.

Systems went down first thing this morning and stayed out of operation until around 9am.

Anyone travelling during that time was advised to travel without bags and to pack essential items in hand luggage.

The airport said it continues to monitor the situation and advised passengers who have already left on flights this morning without their baggage to contact their airline for further updates.

"We are sorry to passengers affected by this issue," it said.

British Airways passengers were among those affected and the problems come just a few weeks after the bank holiday chaos when the airline’s own IT systems failed, causing major cancellations and delays.

BA shareholders meet in Madrid today and will no doubt have some tough questions for the airline’s management team, who blamed the failure on human error.
