Two aviation security officers at Bali Airport have been arrested and face jail time after going on a shopping spree with a traveller’s credit card.

Security officers Gede Sutha Asthina, 35 and Ahmad Januri, 40 found a wallet after security sweeping an AirAsia plane which had arrived from Jakarta and passengers had deplaned.

The men handed the wallet in to the AirAsia’s lost and found desk but kept a credit card for themselves.

That funded a spree to the tune of IDR68,702,080 (about US$5,000) said police chief Nyoman Artana.

Three transactions of around US$1,000 each were deposited into the accounts of the two men and a friend, while they also went on a shopping trip buying up TVs and designer clothing.

After reaching the credit limit, the card was thrown away.

The two AirAsia security officers and a third unnamed man, who helped to facilitate the fraudulent money transfers, face charges which could land them in prison for a minimum of seven years.
