Bali offering free hotel stays for locals

Indonesia will hand out free tours and staycations to thousands of residents across Bali.

According to I Putu Astawa, chief of Bali’s tourism agency, 4,440 residents will be given two-night stays at resorts across Bali in October and November to test new health and safety protocols.

They will also participate in local tours and will be expected to promote ‘New Normal Bali’ on social media channels.

Indonesia has rolled out new health protocols for hotels and related businesses called CHS (Cleanliness, Health and Safety).

Bali has reopened to domestic tourism but that has also coincided with a significant jump in the number of daily cases of Covid-19.

The Indonesian government has closed borders to inbound tourism until at least the end of 2020.

Last year Bali welcomed more than 10 million visitors, with more than six million foreign arrivals, Astawa said.
