Bangkok reopening delayed
Bangkok’s planned reopening has been pushed back by a couple of weeks.
Originally set to open at the beginning of October it will now welcome travellers from 15 October.
Even the revised date could still be pushed back as the opening is tied to a vaccination rate of 70% of the city’s target population.
At present, only 37% are fully jabbed, said Tourism Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn.
Along with Bangkok, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan are expected to reopen for tourist visits next month.
The Bangkok delay was spurred by the concerns of health officials over the slow vaccination progress and also from hotel managers asking for more time to prepare for all the required health protocols.
