Bangladesh launching first homegrown cruise line
Bangladesh is to launch its first luxury cruise company, following a recent agreement signed between state-run Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and Afroz Shipping Lines.
The venture will operate luxury two night cruises in the Bay of Bengal starting in October with plans to expand to longer voyages to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
"We hope to start two-day two-night pleasure trips in the Bay of Bengal in October," said Afroz managing director Shah Mominul Islam Chowdhury.
The ship, which is classed as five-star quality, will feature a swimming pool, restaurant, and casino.
"After the first phase, there will be voyages to and from Malaysia and Thailand. During the Hajj season, it will touch Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Malaysia," Chowdhury added.
