Battery fire forces United emergency landing
A United Airlines flight made an unscheduled stop at Daytona Beach Airport due to a battery fire aboard the plane.
The battery charger caught fire mid-flight, the airport said.
"Fire was contained to the passenger’s bag, no injuries or damages," the airport tweeted.
Crew members quickly saved the day by placing it in a fire-retardant case as per normal procedure.
"We appreciate the quick work of our employees on board to keep our customers and fellow employees safe," said United spokesperson, Leslie Scott.
The plane landed safety at Daytona Beach without further incident, and there was no damage to the aircraft interior.
The 130 passengers and five crew members later took off to complete their flight to Nassau, Bahamas.
Under the Federal Aviation Administration rules, lithium batteries, power packs and certain devices are prohibited from checked-in bags and may only be carried in hand luggage.
