Bermuda devastated by hurricane
The island of Bermuda will have to “shut itself down to tourism” after being hit by the most devastating hurricane in 80 years.
Four people are believed to have died as Hurricane Fabian’s 120mph winds hit the island on Friday night, tearing up trees, damaging thousands of buildings and leaving thousands without electricity. Yesterday, according to Sky News, some 60% of the island was still without electricity and the main road to the island’s airport was still impassable.
Politician and businessman Kenneth Bascome is quoted thus: “The island will basically have to close down as far as tourism is concerned – the storm is the most devastating I have ever seen.” Recent news reports state that the island’s airport is due to reopen today, Monday, but that many of the island’s roads are still impassable.
