Big terminal changes coming to LAX in May

Wednesday, 22 March 20173 min read
Travelers flying to or from Los Angeles in May take note.
Big changes are coming soon to LAX with no less than 21 airlines relocating to other parts of the airport.
Described as one of the biggest relocation efforts ever seen in the aviation industry, airlines will relocate in phases during the nights of May 12, 14 and 16.
It involves several US and foreign airlines from Virgin America to Volaris and affects nearly a third of all airlines serving LAX.
It is all down to Delta Air Lines’ shift from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3.
Airlines plan to relocate after final departures of the day on the relevant dates and will open for business the following morning in their new locations.
Airport operator Los Angeles World Airports called it ‘a move of airlines never before seen at a major U.S. airport.’
It is part of a major upgrade program for Terminals 2 and 3 to enable LAX to become a ‘Gold Standard Airport.’
"While moving 21 airlines over three nights is a monumental task, Delta and the LAWA team have been planning and preparing for months to ensure a smooth transition," airport commission president Sean Burton said in a statement.
It also said Delta could conceivably have planes spread across all four terminals during the course of the relocation period.
Passengers have been advised to double check the terminal and arrive for their flights earlier than normal.
Special buses will be on standby to ferry passengers between the affected terminals.
Details of the relocation can be found on the LAX is Happening website.
Airlines on the move over the three dates are as follows:
Air Canada
Allegiant
Avianca
Boutique Air
Copa
Frontier
Hainan
Hawaiian
InterJet
JetBlue
Qatar
Southwest International
Spirit
