Bodies found in hunt for missing American couple in Dominican Republic
The days-long search for a missing New York couple in the Dominican Republic looks to be moving toward a tragic conclusion.
Police say it recovered two bodies from a car crash which reportedly resemble Orlando Moore, 43, and Portia Ravenelle, 32, from Mount Vernon, according to a report in local newspaper Diario Libre.
Police spokesman Colonel Frank Felix Durn said fishermen found the car wreckage in the water close to a road where they would have likely driven to get to the airport.
They were last seen heading to the airport on March 27.
They believe the bodies match their descriptions but no confirmation has been made yet.
The man was found dead at the scene but the woman was taken to hospital with multiple trauma but died four days later.
Duran said neither was carrying identification and divers have been unable to recover the vehicle from the seabed yet to check their belongings.
Police have contacted the US embassy to help with identification.
For several days there were fears of foul play with kidnapping a possibility but police found no evidence of this.
