Boeing 737 Max jets grounded again after new safety issue discovered
A new issue with the Boeing Max has forced multiple airlines to ground the beleaguered jets again.
Boeing cited ‘a potential electrical issue’ and recommended 16 airlines immediately ground their affected planes.
US carriers Southwest Airlines, United, and American Airlines have grounded more than 60 planes combined.
"We are working closely with the US Federal Aviation Administration on this production issue," Boeing said.
"We are also informing our customers of specific tail numbers affected and we will provide direction on appropriate corrective actions."
The 737 Max had only just returned to service in late 2020 after a global grounding lasting more than 18 months after two fatal crashes caused 346 deaths.
The Max still hadn’t been cleared to fly since then by regulators in several countries including India.
