Officials at Boston Airport say a taxi which jumped a curb and injured ten people was the result of a ‘tragic accident’ rather than act of terror.
The vehicle was being driven by a well-liked cab driver based at the airport, who police believe pressed down on the gas instead of the brake, in what they called an ‘operator error.’
State police spokesman David Procopio says 10 people were injured, one seriously.
"There is no indication that this was an intentional act," state police Maj. Frank McGinn added.
Most of the injured taken to hospitals were fellow cab drivers.
Witnesses said the cab was careering erratically at high speed and thought the driver was struggling to control the vehicle.
It then jumped a curb and slammed into a rest area used by other drivers.
"I think maybe he lost control of the cab. He was going fast, maybe 80," said cab driver Mohamed Bahaj.
In the immediate aftermath there were initial fears it could be a terror-related vehicular attack such as those which have hit London and mainland Europe in recent months.
