Brazil airline Gol will pay over $41 million to settle bribery investigations in the US and Brazil, according the DOJ.
It will pay a criminal penalty of $17 million and about $24.5 million relating to a separate Securities and Exchange Commission investigation.
The airline paid millions in bribes to benefit from new legislation the Justice Department’s criminal division said.
Between 2012 and 2013, it conspired to pay bribes to foreign officials in Brazil according to court documents.
The SEC and DOJ fines are less than what would be normal due to the airline’s precarious financial position
