Brazilian airline compensates Amazon tribe for plane crash

A remote Amazonian tribe has scored a $1.3 million payout from Brazilian carrier Gol Transportes Aéreos for a plane crash a decade ago which the tribe says cursed its land.
Gol agreed to pay ‘material and spiritual compensation’ to the Caiapo tribe.
In September 2006 a Gol jet collided with a private Embraer plane over the Amazon in the state of Mato Grosso.
The Embraer was able to continue on to a nearby airport and land but the Gol plane crashed killing all 154 passengers and crew.
The tribe refused to return to their reservation saying the land was cursed with death and polluted and were eventually moved to another area.
The US National Transportation Safety Board took part in the post-crash investigation and cited errors by Brazilian air traffic control.
