Brisbane’s new Cruise Terminal in demand
Brisbane’s new international cruise terminal has already had a significant level of booking inquiry ahead of it being showcased next week at the world’s leading industry event, the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention, being held in Miami in the United States.
The Brisbane Cruise Terminal, which will be officially launched in mid-2006, is part of the diversified Multiplex Group’s $400 million Portside Wharf development on the river at Hamilton.
“We have already had 55 booking inquiries so far this year,” said Multiplex Developments Australia director Shane Bulloch.
“The international cruise industry recognises that Brisbane is a gateway to Queensland’s iconic tourist destinations of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts with their world famous beaches just one hour drive away as well as being on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef,” Mr Bulloch said.
“They also see Brisbane as a modern, contemporary sub-tropical city with its own rich heritage that will appeal to international visitors.”
Mr Bulloch said Portside Wharf will be a tourism, retail and leisure destination in its own right with a very cosmopolitan feeling throughout the development with prestige residential accommodation and premium retail and dining outlets.
“While the Portside Wharf restaurant precinct is set to attract customers from the surrounding exclusive inner-city suburb of Hamilton, I also expect its reputation will lure diners from across Brisbane and beyond,” Mr Bulloch said.
“And with the international cruise terminal, the Portside Wharf dining experience will also have echoes of the Circular Quay and Darling Harbour restaurant precincts where the sense of the exotic and foreign will mix with the local providing a water front dining environment not previously experienced in Brisbane.”
