Brisbane’s NEXT big thing

Monday, 15 Apr, 2013 0

The A$35m redevelopment of Brisbane’s Chifley at Lennons is underway, the first step in a rebranding of the landmark hotel as the world’s first NEXT Hotel.

SilverNeedle Hospitality, the Singaporean-based firm, has operated the Queen Street Mall property for about 15 years.

Chief executive and managing director Iqbal Jumabhoy said choosing Brisbane as the location for Silver Needle’s new flagship hotel brand was an easy decision. "Brisbane has a thriving hotel market, but there is a shortage of new capacity."

Room capacity at the hotel is set to almost double, from 154 rooms to 300.

It is anticipated that construction will be completed by mid 2014 and launched prior to the November 2014 G20 Leaders Summit.
