Bristol unveils plans for major expansion
Bristol International Airport has published a master plan designed to increase capacity from six to nine million passengers in 10 years.
It says this can be achieved without building another runway or extending the existing one, and claims its noise ‘footprint’ will not increase.
The Terminal building will be extended at each end to create more check-in desks, while the parking area will be expanded.
The car park roof will be covered in vegetation, so that the new building merges into the background.
New routes are expected to Europe, North America, including Canada, and the Middle East, including Dubai.
The airport is to submit a detailed planning application to the North Somerset Council in early 2007.
