Spanish owned UK airports operator British Airports Authority, is to cut jobs but has denied as many as 2,000 staff are to be lost.
The figure, reported the The Times, was disputed by the owner of seven UK airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Glasgow, according to the BBC.
Some job are to be lost as part of an efficiency review but security and customer service positions will not be affected, it was reported.
BAA was quoted as saying there would be a “simplification exercise aimed at support staff much more than frontline staff.
“It is not simply about costs. It’s about building a much leaner and more efficient business.”
The Spanish-owned company is under scrutiny by the Competition Commission over whether it has a dominant position.
