British Airways strike averted
The pay dispute between British Airways and check-in staff at Heathrow has been suspended after BA made a ‘vastly improved’ pay offer.
It means good news for customers travelling this summer amid seemingly never-ending flight disruptions.
The pay package was agreed with Unite and GMB unions which they say effectively restores the 10% pay cut which was at the heart of the dispute.
The offer will go to a ballot with unions confident it will now be accepted.
“We are very pleased that, following collaboration with the unions, they have decided not to issue dates for industrial action. This is great news for our customers and our people,” an airline spokesperson said.
Still, disruption will continue as BA said it would cancel thousands of flights through summer as acute staff shortages continue to bite.
Jo Rhodes, Which? Travel Expert, welcomed the news, but said British Airways’ fliers are still facing major disruption this summer.
Which? blames the airline mismanaging schedules by selling flights it knows it cannot deliver.
“Which? recently reported BA to the Civil Aviation Authority for failing customers during delays and cancellations.
