British holidaymakers not put off by terrorism
Survey highlights changing perceptions on world destinations
British holidaymakers are flocking to destinations that would have been considered “unsafe” just a few months ago, according to a survey by Teletext.
The survey states they are “living up to their British Bulldog reputation”; while 66% of travellers are concerned by terrorism, just 9% said they had changed their plans because of the threat.
And, “further proving their pluckiness”, Teletext’s PR company Band and Brown Communications claims, 32% of travellers said they are willing to consider all destinations for their summer holiday, even so-called high-risk destinations such as Indonesia.
Of more interest, perhaps, is the fact that perception of certain countries has changed dramatically in the last three months. The survey highlights the USA and Cyprus, which have seen a strong recovery, with 81% and 79% respectively regarding the countries as “safe”. A similar survey in March gave the respective countries ratings of 61% and 60%.
Teletext’s sales director Nishma Patel said: “Although most operators experienced a dip in bookings during the Gulf war, British holidaymakers have proved to remarkably plucky and resilient. The post-war recovery has been extremely strong – people looking to get a good deal for their summer holidays should book sooner rather than later or risk missing out on the best deals and the most popular destinations.”
