British Travel Awards – winners announced
Thomas Cook was named Tour Operator of the Year in the 2006 British Travel Awards held last night.
Sunvil Holidays was recognised as Independent Specialist Tour Operator of the Year.
Thomson was Favourite Retail Travel Agent of the Year by consumers and Portman Travel was Best Business Travel Agency Group voted for by the trade. Kuoni was recognised for offering Best Agency Sales.
Cunard was Cruise Line of the Year while sister line P&O Cruises picked up two awards – Favourite Cruise Line and Mainstream Cruise Line. Ocean Village was named Best Niche Cruise Line, also from the same Carnival UK stable. Royal Caribbean International was awarded Cruise Innovation of the Year and Silversea was Best Luxury Cruise Line.
Cheapflights.co.uk took the Best Trade Website award while Galileo was the Best Technology Provider and lastminute.com was Favourite Online Retailer. Expedia was voted by consumers as Favourite for Travel Information Online.
Virgin Atlantic was Airline of the Year and Best Scheduled Airline. British Airways was named Favourite Airline by consumers. The Environmentally Responsible Airline Award went to First Choice Airways. Favourite Low Cost Airline chosen by consumers was easyJet.
Barcelona was voted consumers Favourite City Break Destination, New Zealand was Dream Destination, Cornwall, Favourite Uk Destination and Whistler Favourite Ski Destination. Center Parcs was Favourite UK Holiday Park Operator.
Other Environmentally Responsible Tourism Awards went to The Orchid Hotel, Mumbai and Exodus Travel.
Petra Roach of Barbados Tourism was named Personaility of the Year.
There were 100 British Travel Awards given out at the Battersea Marquee in London – with 27 top awards presented on stage at the ceremony held on the final day of World Travel Market.
The awars combined consumer and trade voting with a panel of industry experts.
