British woman, 19, ‘gang raped’ in Ayia Napa hotel

An investigation is underway into the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old British woman in a hotel in Ayia Napa.
Police are questioning 12 suspects, all Israeli tourists, in connection with the incident which is said to have taken place in the early hours of Wednesday.
The suspects, aged between 15 and 18, were reportedly arrested at their hotel at 6am yesterday.
They appeared in court on Thursday and were remanded in custody to give police a further eight days to investigate.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said it was supporting a British woman who was assaulted in Cyprus and is in contact with local police.
The alleged victim is said to be having medical treatment.
