British woman jailed in Bali for slapping immigration officer

Thursday, 7 February 20193 min read

British woman Auj-e Taqaddas, 42, has been jailed for six months in Bali for slapping an immigration officer at Ngurah Rai International Airport.

The July 28 incident was filmed and received much media attention at the time.

She went into a foul-mouthed meltdown, blaming the officer for her missing her flight.

She had overstayed her visa by several months and was told she would have to pay a fine of US$4,000.

Overstayers can be fined the equivalent of $20 a day.

Taqaddas was physically taken to the court building this week after repeatedly failing to show up for earlier scheduled sentencing hearings.

That led to another tantrum caught on camera.

"We have been monitoring her movements in the past week and this afternoon we forcibly took her to the court," said prosecutor Waher Tulus Jaya Tarihoran.

"She fought back, hitting and kicking our prosecutors."

Taqaddas has filed an appeal.

Her family back in the UK say they are ‘deeply ashamed’ at her behaviour
