A British skier killed in an avalanche in the Italian Alps has been named as 43-year-old Matt Ziegler.

The bodies of three other skiers who were skiing off-piste with Mr Ziegler close to the resort of Courmayeur have also been recovered.

They were a New Zealander Katherine Clarke, aged 39, who lived in London, Nicolas Bruno Vergez, 36, from France, and Pole Wespazjan Wisla, 38.

The four were reported missing yesterday when they failed to return to their hotel after going off-piste.

Two Italian skiers were killed by avalanches in Italy on Sunday, one in the Alps and one in the South Tyrol region.

Last week, two British men fell to their deaths while skiing off-piste in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in the French Alps.
