The number of Brits taking their annual holiday on home soil is up slightly this summer – and they plan to spend a lot more too.
Research by Travelodge found 57% of Brits will be taking their summer holiday in the UK, up from 55% in 2017.
It also found British holidaymakers plan to splash out this summer, with an average spend of £823, up 37% from last year’s £599.
It is also the highest spend since Travelodge started its annual holiday index in 2011 when the average spend was £399.28.
The Travelodge holiday report, which surveyed 3,000 British adults, revealed 25% are taking more UK short breaks this year, and 85% are taking an average of three Staycation breaks throughout the year.
The report also revealed that 38% of Britons want to holiday in the UK rather than Europe in order to support their economy.
