Tourism ministry wins project for popularisation of Bulgarian EDEN destinations
The Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism has won European funding for a project themed Communication Campaign for Popularisation of EDEN Destinations in Bulgaria.
"EDEN" is an acronym for "European Destinations of Excellence" and is an initiative which popularises the models of sustainable development of tourism across the EU.
The project is worth nearly EUR 70,000. It is funded under the COSME 2014-2020 programme of the European Commission (EC) and its duration will be 18 months.
Bulgaria is among the European countries provided an opportunity by the EC to realise a project for popularisation of EDEN destinations.
Bulgaria won the competition for funding along with countries, including Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Cyprus, Estonia, Italy, France, Ireland, and Malta.
The project aims at promoting Bulgarian EDEN destinations on national and foreign tourist markets.
The municipalities of Silistra, Lukovit, Sandanski, Kyustendil, Belogradchik, Belitsa, Sapareva Banya, Kavarna, Vratsa, Strandzha, Belogradchik, Kazanlak, and Kardzhali are among the destinations in question.
EDEN is an initiative promoting sustainable tourism development models across the EU.
The initiative is based on national competitions that take place every other year and result in the selection of a tourist ‘destination of excellence’ for each participating country.
Through the selection of destinations, EDEN draws attention to the values, diversity and common features of European tourist destinations.
