Cadogan unable to divulge details of Gary David case
No further details are to be disclosed following the civil court claim by Cadogan Holidays against its former managing director Gary David.
A spokeswoman for Cadogan said under the agreement reached in The High Courts of Justice, both parties involved are legally obliged to remain silent about the details of the claim.
When asked if criminal proceedings against David were pending, she said: “It’s all in the hands of the police and the prosecution now. I can’t rule it out but there is no case pending at this time.”
Meanwhile, the rumour mill continues to grind in the industry about the civil case.
David, a former ABTA director, has been ordered to make a payment to Cadogan of an appropriate, but undisclosed sum.
He was suspended on January 16 and dismissed on April 6 last year following investigations into his management.
Announcing the outcome of the case yesterday, chairman James Gaggero: “I am pleased that this regrettable chapter has been brought to a conclusion.
“Betrayal of one’s trust is always difficult to bear but I have been immensely heartened by, and will not forget, the loyalty of our staff and the understanding and support of our many friends in the travel industry throughout this testing year.”
Talking to Travelmole.com today, current MD Tom Allen, who has been at the helm of the company since David’s dismissal, said: “Obviously this all happened over a year ago and at that time the staff were shocked and surprised, but we are a year further on now and quite frankly we’ve got a whole new team and we’re working like mad to build our vision of the future.
“The investigation hasn’t really affected the staff at all because it’s all been happening in the background. This case has now happened and that brings closure. It’s history and now we can move on.”
He added that he did not know what David was doing now, but believed he was still living in Southampton, where Cadogan is based.
David was a high profile figure in the travel industry, who played a leading role in the Truly Independent Professional Travel Organisation (TIPTO) and the Association of Independent Tour Operators.
He was chairman of the Association of Tour Operators to Portugal at the time of his suspension last year.
