Authorities in Cambodia have ruled out any foul play in the death of a young British backpacker.
Amelia Bambridge disappeared after a beach party on the island of Koh Rong on October 24, sparking a huge search by security forces and locals.
More than 100 people took part including members of the Bambridge family who arrived to assist.
A week after going missing, a body was discovered in water about 70km away near the Thai border.
"She died from drowning. There is no sign of a criminal offence. The body has been given to her family," said Kheang Phearum, spokesman for the Preah Sihanouk provincial administration.
The search was sparked after the young woman did not check out from her hostel, and some of her belongings were spotted on the beach shortly after she went missing.
There was a suspicion the 21-year old may have been abducted or possibly become lost in Koh Rong’s jungle interior, although drowning was always the likely scenario, police said.
Koh Rong is situated just offshore from the beach resort town of Sihanoukville and is a popular haunt for backpackers.
